When planning your trip to Sri Lanka, understanding the visa requirements is essential for a smooth entry into the country. Here’s what you need to know:
Types of Visas:
Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)
Most travelers to Sri Lanka require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for short visits. The ETA is suitable for tourism, business, or transit purposes and allows you to stay in the country for up to 30 days, with the possibility of extending it for an additional 60 days.
Visa on Arrival
Sri Lanka offers a Visa on Arrival for certain nationalities, but it is recommended to apply for your ETA before departure to avoid any delays upon arrival.
Long-Term Visas
If you plan to stay longer than 90 days, or if you’re traveling for study, work, or family reunification, you will need to apply for a visa through the Sri Lankan embassy or consulate in your home country.
How to Apply for an ETA
Online Application
You can apply for an ETA online through the official Sri Lankan government website. The application process is straightforward and can be completed in just a few minutes. You’ll need to provide personal information, travel details, and passport information.
Processing Time
The ETA is usually processed within 24 hours, but it’s advisable to apply at least a week in advance of your travel date to ensure there are no issues.
